Tonalgram

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 23, 2026

Tonalgram is a visual music studio for iPhone and iPad developed by Octet Software ("we", "us", or "our"). Tonalgram is designed so that creating music does not require giving us personal information.

1. Information we do not collect

2. Projects and app settings

Your saved Tonalgrams, custom synth patches, performances, mixer settings, text, preferences, and other project information are stored locally on your device. Tonalgram uses an Apple App Group container so the main app and its Messages extension can access the same saved library on that device. This information is not sent to us.

3. Photos and user-provided content

If you choose to add a photo, Tonalgram uses Apple's system photo picker. The app receives only the image you select and uses it to build your project or export. Tonalgram does not scan your photo library, and we do not receive the selected image.

Text, emoji, colors, gradients, and other content you enter remain part of your local project unless you choose to export or share them.

4. Audio, recording, and MIDI

Tonalgram records the musical notes and controls you perform inside the app and synthesizes their audio. It does not use the device microphone to record your surroundings. Video, audio, and MIDI files are created locally and are shared only when you use Apple's share controls or save them elsewhere.

5. Messages extension

Tonalgram includes a Messages extension. When you choose to create or attach a Tonalgram in Messages, the selected content is passed to Apple's Messages interface at your direction. We do not receive the message, recipient, attachment, or conversation. Messages and iMessage are governed by Apple's policies.

6. Purchases

Tonalgram is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple processes purchases under Apple's Privacy Policy. We may receive aggregate sales and diagnostic information from Apple, but not your payment details.

7. Diagnostics

If you have chosen to share diagnostics with app developers through Apple, Apple may provide us with crash reports or performance information. This is controlled by your Apple device settings and Apple's privacy practices. Tonalgram does not operate its own diagnostics service.

8. Children's privacy

Tonalgram does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Because there are no accounts, advertising, analytics, or developer servers, a child can use the app without submitting personal information to us.

9. Data retention and deletion

We have no server-side user data to retain or delete. You control projects and exports stored on your device and can delete them through Tonalgram, the Files or Photos app where applicable, or by deleting the app.

10. Changes to this policy

If Tonalgram's data practices change, we will update this policy and revise the date above.
