Common questions

I cannot hear any sound

Raise the device volume and confirm that another app can play sound. Tonalgram respects the device's audio output and can mix with other audio. If headphones, speakers, AirPlay, or Bluetooth are connected, check that sound is going to the expected device. Closing and reopening Tonalgram can also reset an interrupted audio session.

How do I save what I created?

Use the orange Save control on the player. You can save as a new Tonalgram or update the current saved project. Saved Tonalgrams retain the creative setup needed to continue working later, including instruments, visual choices, mixer content, and project settings.

What happens when I record another mixer track?

Each recorded track remembers its instrument, notes, volume, pan, mute and solo state, and animation setup. Arm the track you want to work on, return to the player, choose its sound and visuals, and record. The accompaniment lane separately represents drums, progressions, songs, or the metronome.

Can I change volume and pan while a mix plays?

Yes. Mixer volume and pan controls update live, so you can hear the result while playback continues. Mute and solo are also available per track and on the accompaniment lane.

How do I export a video?

Open Share, choose portrait or square video, then adjust the trim handles against the filmstrip and waveform. Preview the selected section before creating the final 1080p video. The export reflects the project's music, mix, visuals, text visibility, and keyboard-render preference.

What does MIDI export include?

MIDI export includes separate musical tracks, notes, timing, velocity, and tempo. It intentionally does not include Tonalgram's instrument sounds. Open the MIDI file in a DAW or compatible music app and assign the sounds you want there.

Why does the Messages extension look different?

Apple runs the extension inside Messages, where screen space and memory are more limited. It is designed for opening saved Tonalgrams and creating content within the conversation. The full app provides the complete player and studio interface. Both use the same shared saved-project library on the device.

How do photos and text work?

Choose a photo from the image editor or enter text in the title editor. Use Show on Player and Render to control title visibility. Long-press visible text or use Adjust on Player for an image to position the content against the full player rather than relying only on the editor preview.

Can I design my own synthesizer sound?

Yes. Open TGSynth Lab to shape oscillators, envelope, filters, modulation, arpeggiator behavior, and effects. Save the result as a custom patch so it can be selected like another instrument.
